Set Up and Manage the Expensify Card in the UK and EU
The Expensify Card is available for companies in the United Kingdom and select European countries. This guide walks you through eligibility and how to set up and start using the card in GBP or EUR.
Workspace Admins and Card Admins can issue virtual and physical Expensify Cards to members and manage spending in GBP or EUR.
Who can set up the Expensify Card in the UK and EU
Workspace Admins can set up the Expensify Card for companies registered in the UK and supported European countries if they:
- Have a GBP or EUR business bank account connected in Expensify
- Have enabled Global Reimbursement

Where the Expensify Card is supported
The Expensify Card can be used anywhere Visa is accepted.
However, only companies registered in the following countries can enable the Expensify Card for their workspace:
- Belgium
- Denmark
- Finland
- Gibraltar
- Ireland
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Luxembourg
- Netherlands
- Poland
- Spain
- Sweden
- United Kingdom
- United States (please refer to the US onboarding process)
How to enable the Expensify Card on your workspace
Once you meet the requirements, you can enable the Expensify Card on your GBP or EUR workspace.
- In the navigation tabs (on the left on web, on the bottom on mobile), select Workspaces > [workspace name] > More features.
- In the Spend section, enable Expensify Card.
- In the workspace navigation menu, select Expensify Card.
- Click Issue new card.
- Select the GBP or EUR business bank account that will be used to settle all Expensify Card transactions.
- Review the One more step instructions and click Go to Concierge.
- In your conversation with Concierge, provide the most recent three months of bank statements for the bank account you selected in Step 5. These statements help determine your workspace’s eligible spending limit.
Concierge reviews your request and contacts you if any additional information is needed. Approval typically takes one to two business days. Once your workspace is approved, you can begin issuing Expensify Cards.
How to issue an Expensify Card to a member
After your workspace is approved and a spending limit has been assigned to your workspace, you can begin issuing cards to members.
- In the navigation tabs (on the left on web, at the bottom on mobile), select Workspaces > [workspace name] > Expensify Card.
- Click Issue new card.
- Select the member who will receive the card.
- Choose Virtual or Physical.
- Choose a spending limit type:
- Smart limit – Spend up to a threshold before approval is required.
- Monthly limit – Limit renews each month.
- Fixed limit – Spend until the limit is reached.
- Single-use (virtual only) – Expires after one transaction.
- Enter the spending limit.
- (Optional for virtual cards) Enable Set expiration date and define a Start date and End date.
- When enabled, both dates are required. The card activates at 12:00 AM local time on the Start date and expires at 11:59 PM local time on the End date.
- When disabled, the card does not expire automatically.
- Name the card for easier tracking.
- Click Issue card to confirm.
How to activate a physical Expensify Card
Members activate their own physical Expensify Cards after receiving them.
To activate a physical Expensify Card:
- In the navigation tabs (on the left on web, on the bottom on mobile), select Account > Wallet.
- Select the physical Expensify Card.
- Follow the prompts to activate the card.
After activation, the card is ready to use.

FAQ
What exchange rate is used for foreign currency purchases?
When the purchase currency differs from the Expensify Card’s currency, Expensify uses the Visa FX calculator to determine the exchange rate. This includes EUR purchases made with a GBP card and GBP purchases made with a EUR card.
Note: Set the bank fee to 0% when using the calculator. The Expensify Card does not charge foreign exchange fees.
